Can't Say We Never Tried
Alot of people have asked me what inspired me to write this song 'Can't Say We Never Tried'. Although the song was originally inspired by a couple of friends of mine who went through a relationship breakup, it evolved into something greater than that. And that is that I realised that there are alot of things in our lives, that start and then come to an end. Whether it's a friendship, a relationship, a job, a sportsperson. These things are built up in our lives and then they come to an end. Sometimes it's a good thing. Sometimes it hurts. But what is important to me as a human being is being able to look back, and know that I did the best that I could with the skills that I had at the time. For me it's important to not have any regrets, but there are things that I look back on and reflect and I realise that it may have been a different outcome or it may have been easier if I'd handled it differently. But I would still know and feel in my heart that I gave it my best.
That's what this song means to me. It's about going through life and always giving your all. And having the ability to say to myself, "you know what? I'm proud of what I've achieved and I did try my hardest and I did try my best. And that's where the phrase 'Can't Say We Never Tried', although a fairly commonly used phrase, came from. I think it's nice to be able to look back on something and genuinely say 'Can't Say We Never Tried'.
